Building up to this series has been great. I said if the Celtics didn’t make the Eastern Conference Finals the season would be a disappointment. They did not let me down. Watching every game was a heaven. Going from worst to first (the largest turn around in NBA history) was incredible. Watching them run thru the West (particularly the Texas sweep of Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston) gave us confidence. And then it was 2 seven game series thru the East.
Living in LA has made it that much better. There has been a buzz and a little over confidence by Laker fans, those ridiculous car flags, and even the colors purple and gold, all bug the hell out of me. That with the fact every person at ESPN picked the Lakers (except Tim Legler). Then we won both games at home, with some help in game 2 from the refs. Going to LA you knew it was going to be close to impossible to win the first game. Our struggles on the road, compounded by the fact the refs would return the favor made it a long shot to win. It was a must win situation for the Lakers, which made it a great game. The Celtics lost, but that will not take away from my first NBA Finals game. A great experience overall.
In the words of Eric B. “It’s been a long time, I shouldn’t have left you!“. Over the last month I have been moving, traveling back and forth from LA to Miami, and been completely enthralled with the Celtics playoff run. There is a lot to catch up personally, not to mention Lakers / Celtics Finals!
I have been thinking about getting the Serra vs St-Pierre UFC 83 fight. My interest in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) started with the reeeeaally amature fights on HDNet Fights. Then I graduated to EliteXC thanks to Kimbo Slice. Now I am ready for the big time UFC 83 Serra vs St-Pierre!
Well, while perusing my Fantasy Baseball team I saw an ad for the event to be broadcast over the internet on Yahoo! Sports for $45. It is a pretty bold move considering I can order it in HD on a 52 inch screen for 10 bucks more. The technology is still evolving rapidly, but the viewing habits of people are slow to change. I would love to see the number of viewers and what type of demographics are ordering it (ie. people without TV!)
About a month ago I powered thru the gauntlet that was MIX08 and SXSW 2008. Pretty much every person I know who did it was wiped afterwards. And the amount of time to absorb, catalog, and disseminate has been a little bit daunting (read between the lines: more content to come, albeit late!). Needless to say, the nice folks at Web 2.0 TV were interested in interviewing me about Sapient. Well here it is in Link form: (YUM!)
I had been looking forward to seeing the Sox play this past weekend. The fact it was in a venue that I would never get an opportunity to see them play in only added to the excitement. We arrived at noon for a 7pm start, it was a full day of tailgating. Something which Dodger fans don’t get to experience. There is no tailgating at Dodger Stadium, so this was a clear novelty. All I can say is that they don’t allow it for a reason! I have been to a lot of games, but these fans were rough! Something you have to respect on some level, but man it was rough. I have been to Oakland during the playoffs and that was bad. I have been to Yankee Stadium and that wasn’t that bad. The Dodger fans were by far the most ruthless of all. I don’t know if it was because they were drunk, or if they are normally that ferocious. Either way you got to respect their fandom!
Apple has posted sessions from it’s developer conference. There is a good amount of content covering Iphone App and Iphone Safari development. It is well worth a look.
Here is an article that talks about Microsoft downloading the iPhone SDK. It is possible that they are looking to port Office to the iphone. In they same article they talk about the likely hood of porting “TellMe” voice recognition software.
Paul Robertson of the Adobe Air team has an interesting blog posting on bug free apps or the lack of such a possibility. To some extent I think it is a little easier to have this mindset if you are client-side. When you are building products in house the balance of release date vs quality control is easily managed. When a company is consulting on projects every hour spent is equated to dollars. I find the pressure to get it right within the release or warranty period is very high. No client wants to hear, “Oh we couldn’t get to that feature, but I tell you what, we will get it in version 2!”. On the consulting side there usually isn’t a version 2.
Today is the season opener for baseball. The Red Sox play the A’s in Japan. I am so excited I am going to be up at 3 am to watch the game. This will ultimately kill me during the day, but it is that important for me to be there! I accept the fact I am a huge fan unfortunately so is everyone else, and people hate it! Or I should say us. That’s why it is time. Time for us Boston sports fans to start acting like we have been there. We are acting like Yankees fans! Smug, privileged, cocky sports fans. I think the difference is we are louder and a bit more obnoxious. The sad part is it is all true! Our jubilation and sheer joy from winning (anything) was welcomed by others because it was genuine. As time has gone on, we got a little confident about winning and it was nice, we have never had a reason to be confident. But we have been winning for awhile, and we haven’t changed our tune and people are sick of hearing about it. So I say don’t change, still be excited, and still be confident, but lets do it privately! 5 years ago Tim Wakefield gave up that bomb to Aron Boone, and it was horrible. 85 yrs and nothing but pain. Just think about this. THIS IS THE 100TH SEASON FOR THE CUBS!!!!!!! 100 years and no World Series, I am going to watch Cubs games just for that fact alone 100 years of not winning……Lets tone it down, and cheer louder for those guys!
So I decided to get in the blog game! I work developing content for the web space and it only took me what, 5 years to get started? I am sort of embarrassed that it has taken me this long to take a crack at it. I think a big part of it was getting the first post out of the way. Was it supposed to be thought provoking, or coherent for that matter? So much pressure I tells ya! Well here it is! The next one will be better, and more about technology, creative ideas, or the future. All a bit more exciting than my “feelings”. So welcome! I hope this is inspiring or at least engaging.
