Social Media Predictions for 2009 – an aggregation of the minds

Peter Kim (former Forrester analyst) has taken the time summarize some thoughts from some leaders within this little phenomenon called social media. The document is worth a read. The opinions span the spectrum. From “social media being the best option due to dwindling marketing budgets”, to “social media will receive less focus due to murky metrics and unclear ROI”. Some of the comments are a good synopsis of the challenges that have emerged over the past year.

FirstBorn Takes over Big Spaceships Website

AdAge has a story about Firstborn and Big Spaceship. Apparently all girly men (and women) at Big Spaceship forgot their inhalers. Firstborn took them to school in an Olympic style competition (basketball, pingpong, and foosball). The site has been reverted (24hr takeover), does anyone have any more pics?

I know Sapient would work over Firstborn like a little brother. Living in LA, all we do is hone our abs, pecs, and hand/eye coordination. I am going to extend a challenge to Firstborn LA and see if they want to rumble.

Yahoo Layoffs

It had been rumored for awhile, but it seems it is finally going down today. On one side it must be hard to go thru a month knowing that this is going to happen. On the flip side, it gives you time to get your ducks in order.

What is sad/interesting…You can tell who is getting laid off or who is afraid of it, by the spike in LinkedIn recommendations. I wonder what is the increase in usage of sites like LinkedIn during times of economic crisis. I think it could be used as a barometer for peoples mindsets around job security.

In anycase best of luck to the people who are on the outs today..

PermissionTV at Adobe Max

While attending Max, I stopped by the PermissionTV booth. If you have not heard of them you should check out their product. It is a software as a service firm that has created video distribution platform. From a developer standpoint they have a Platform Development Kit (PDK) that you can get access to for free. They are also looking to build up their developer community, so any obstacles you may encounter will be addressed swiftly.
